Dealing with Depression

What is Depression?

First Step Counselling Leixlip can help. Depression affects a large percentage of the population at least once in their lives. It can be brief or prolonged. It can be triggered by a loss, an unfortunate event, a run of bad luck or something that may or may not have been in one’s control. Depression follows a predictable pattern beginning with an increasingly negative view of oneself followed by an increasingly negative view of the world and one’s place in it and finally an increasingly negative view of the future. When depression takes hold even the most normal of situations appear negative, leading to feelings of pessimism and hopelessness. It often takes other people to bring it to the sufferers’ attention as they have often been mired in depression for some time before they become aware of it.
